IVY Project Partner for the Interreg project "FIREPOCTEP+"
Support inform the local population about the dangers of forest fires, preventive measures as well as reforestation efforts following major fires.
FINNOVA Foundation is looking for an IVY volunteer!
The volunteer will support the Interreg project “FIREPOCTEP+", under the Interreg Programme "IInterreg VI-A España-Portugal".
The objective of the project:
Forest fires pose a threat to the health and well-being of the population, the economy, and the environment. According to data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), Spain experienced in 2022 the worst year for forest fires on record, with over 310,000 hectares affected, accounting for 39% of the total forest fires in the entire European Union. A similar situation is repeated in Portugal. It is evident that the development of a forest fire prevention project on the border between Spain and Portugal is an urgent necessity to prevent future fires and reverse the current situation.
The FIREPOCTEP+ project aims to build upon the lessons learned from previous projects under the INTERREG POCTEP Program, such as FIREPOCTEP and CILIFO, with the latter project being one of the priorities of the Common Cross-Border Development Strategy (Spain - Portugal). Furthermore, FIREPOCTEP+ will delve into research, on-site interventions, and the dissemination of best practices to the target groups. The project will also work on the educational and awareness component to inform the local population about the dangers of forest fires, preventive measures that can be taken to avoid them, as well as reforestation efforts following major fires.
The volunteer will be carrying out communication activities:
