IVY Project Partner for the Interreg project "EU-MAT"
Support Effective Urban Material Mining in Cities.
UiT Norges Arktiske Universitet - UiT, The Arctic University of Norway is looking for an IVY volunteer!
The volunteer will support the Interreg project “EU-MAT - Effective Urban Material Mining in Cities", under the Programme "Interreg Aurora".
The objective of the Interreg project "EU-MAT" is to develop an innovative urban material mining method that can accurately assess the quantity and quality of reusable materials from demolitions.
The volunteer will be carrying out the following tasks and activities:
- conduct research related to the EU-MAT project, gathering data from demolition works and municipalities, which will going to be a chance to meet more organizations and locals from Narvik;
- support the investigation of the policy and regulation from Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Observed regulations refer to the cross-border comparison of reuse and recycling practice of the demolition waste, as well as certification of recycled materials for re-introduction into the building process;
- support with data analysis and building predictive models using machine learning;
- Help preparing reports or presentations, contribute to the publicity of the project by creating some promotional material.
Other information:
Financial support of: 41.12 euros per day (week-end and holidays included).
Location: Tromsø, Norway.
Start and duration: May 2026, for 2 or 4 months.
Languages*: English (C1).
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Financial support
Every volunteer receives a stipend to cover expenses for food and accommodation. The amount provided allows them to live in similar conditions as the local population where they are volunteering, and ranges from 23 to 39 EUR per day.

Insurance
IVY volunteers are fully covered with health, liability and accident insurance. AEBR arranges the policies for you for the entire duration of the experience.

Contribution to travel costs
Travel costs to relocate are covered by AEBR, based on lump sums according to the distance between the host organisation and your place of residence. The sum is allocated depending on the distance in km.
