SMALL ISLANDS ORGANISATION (SMILO) is looking for an IVY volunteer!
The volunteer will support the Interreg project “AQUAMAN", under the Interreg Euro-MED programme.
The objective of the Interreg project "AQUAtic systems’ evaluation for the Mitigation of wAter scarcity in mediterranean islaNds and coastal tourist destinations under severe pressure - AQUAMAN" aims to address critical issues with a sustainable, comprehensive approach that balances the needs of tourism, agriculture, and local populations while conserving water resources for future generations by safeguarding precious water resources and protect the Mediterranean’s unique lifestyle and environment for generations to come. The project focuses on tapping into non-traditional water sources such as rainwater, stormwater and treated wastewater, reducing overall water demand and optimizing distribution systems.
The volunteer will be carrying out the following activities:
ENGAGING THE TARGET AUDIENCE AND SETTING THE BASIS FOR TRANSFER AND MAINSTREAMING
Support the analysis of the stakeholder mapping carried out by SMILO covering public authorities, private actors, academia, NGOs, and local communities, to ensure their active participation;
Contribute to the dissemination of tailored communication and engagement tools for the target groups;
WATER SCARCITY LIVING LABS AND LOCAL WATER SCARCITY MITIGATION STRATEGIES
Assist in developing local strategies through participatory methodologies adapted to island contexts;
Contribute to the development of an updated and inclusive awareness-raising toolkit for local communities, youth, and institutional stakeholders;
Support the organisation of a project follow-up meeting in Porquerolles, aimed at linking the needs identified during the inception meeting with the solutions featured in the project’s solution catalogue;
Assist in the certification process of the island living labs and in organising bilateral meetings in each living lab to facilitate their impact assessment;
Contribute to the strategic principles on water, based on the feedback gathered in each living lab;
As gender considerations are central to the project, support the search for female ambassadors in each island living lab to promote the certification process and contribute to building a network of island ambassadors on water.
MED ACTION PLAN FOR ISLANDS AND TOURISTIC AREAS UNDER THREAT
Contribute to insights from island-based interventions to inform a regional action plan relevant to both the northern and southern Mediterranean shores;
Support with knowledge transfer activities, including adapting the January 2026 SMILO label training for dissemination on the interreg Euro Med Academy platform in MOOC format;
Assist in organising a brainstorming workshop in Gozo as part of the Med Scarcity Mitigation Action Plan.
Other information:
Financial support of: 33.76 euros per day (week-end and holidays included).
Location: Marseille, France.
Start and duration: May, for 6 months.
Deadline for applications: 6 April.
Languages*: English (C1) and French (C1).
*Please be aware that the languages mentioned are the minimum level of command required.

How we support you

Financial support
Every volunteer receives a stipend to cover expenses for food and accommodation. The amount provided allows them to live in similar conditions as the local population where they are volunteering, and ranges from 23 to 39 EUR per day.

Insurance
IVY volunteers are fully covered with health, liability and accident insurance. AEBR arranges the policies for you for the entire duration of the experience.

Contribution to travel costs
Travel costs to relocate are covered by AEBR, based on lump sums according to the distance between the host organisation and your place of residence. The sum is allocated depending on the distance in km.
