IVY Project Partner for the Interreg project "RESILIO"
Support ecosystem resilience, biodiversity monitoring, and adaptation to climate change.
The University of Primorska is looking for an IVY volunteer!
The volunteer will support the Interreg project “RESILIO – Strengthening resilience and reducing risks from climate change in the cross-border area through the restoration and management of green and blue infrastructure", under the Interreg Slovenia-Croatia programme.
The objective of the Interreg project "RESILIO" is RESILIO is to address climate-related pressures on natural ecosystems and local communities. The project focuses on strengthening resilience to climate change through restoration-oriented activities, coordinated monitoring, and knowledge exchange among project partners and stakeholders. A key emphasis is placed on vulnerable ecosystems, especially small wetlands and other biodiversity-rich habitats, as well as on the development of common methodological approaches for monitoring ecological status and restoration effects. As lead partner, the University of Primorska contributes to the strategic coordination of the consortium, supports timely implementation of activities, and participates as an expert institution in research, monitoring, data interpretation, and dissemination. The institution is also involved in strengthening the expert community working on ecosystem resilience, biodiversity monitoring, and adaptation to climate change through transboundary cooperation.
The volunteer will support the following activities:
• Bioacoustics and amphibian call analysis. Assisting in organising and processing several years of acoustic recordings collected in one of the monitored wetlands, with a particular focus on European tree frog. The work will include sorting audio files, supporting annotation of recordings, and helping prepare reference datasets that will serve as baseline material for future field activities and ecological studies within the project area.
• The volunteer will help clean, structure and edit data collected through field surveys, monitoring activities and other project actions, including biodiversity observations and environmental datasets. They will also support preparation of visual materials that can contribute to internal reports, and outreach outputs.
• Although the position will be more laboratory- and office-oriented than previous volunteering profiles, the volunteer will also participate in selected field activities related to wetlands' monitoring, including amphibians, mosquitoes and other target groups. These activities will be carried out under supervision and according to clear instructions.
• The volunteer will support the organisation and processing of image data used for individual recognition of animals through the Hotspotter program or similar tools. This may include file preparation, image sorting, matching support and assistance in building well-structured datasets for further ecological analyses.
• The volunteer will help present the project to wider audiences through short texts, social media contributions, photo documentation and simple promotional materials. By participating in communication activities, the volunteer will contribute to raising awareness about small wetland restoration, biodiversity monitoring and the role of Interreg cooperation in addressing climate-related challenges.
• The volunteer will be invited to attend selected professional meetings, workshops, project events and dissemination activities relevant to their work. This will help them better understand the broader territorial cooperation context and interact with project partners and stakeholders.
The volunteer will be included both into laboratory, office and analytical work and in field activities. 65–75% laboratory / office work and 25–35% field support, depending on seasonal priorities, weather conditions, and the volunteer's experience.
The work plan will remain flexible and will be agreed together with the volunteer. The volunteer will closely collaborate with a mentor and project staff.
